DAMMAM, May 1, 2025 — Saudi officials and event partners today introduced the Global City project, an ambitious entertainment and cultural development on Dammam Island. Project materials describe the development as “a vibrant, multicultural hub designed to celebrate diversity and foster global connections”. Global City will feature international pavilions, food markets, and performances under one roof, giving visitors a “rich tapestry of cultural experiences” while supporting the kingdom’s push to diversify its economy under Vision 2030. The organisers note that this initiative is “central to Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030” and is “poised to transform Saudi Arabia into a tourist destination”.
Dammam’s location on the Arabian Gulf is a strategic advantage. The city is the capital of the Eastern Province and a major industrial and trade center. It has a deep-water port, an international airport and highway links to Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and beyond. A regional strategy document notes that “as Saudi Arabia drives forward with Vision 2030, Dammam is emerging as a future hub of tourism, culture, and commerce”. Officials believe Global City will complement the city’s existing economy (oil, gas and manufacturing) by adding new leisure and shopping attractions that draw both domestic and foreign tourists. Promotional materials underscore that the site will be “an all-inclusive area for families and friends” and “a landmark known for celebrating global cultures”, reflecting the goal of blending modern entertainment with Saudi heritage.
